The Story of Things

Where History Meets Home

Every object holds a story.

At The Clover Road, we believe the things we choose to live with aren’t just beautiful—they’re little time travelers. They carry the marks of their makers, the moods of the eras they’ve passed through, and the meaning we give them today.

Some tell their stories loudly—through bold mid-century lines or hand-hammered copper edges. Others whisper—etched glass, worn wood, the soft weight of a trinket passed from hand to hand. I find them in dusty corners, glowing under bad thrift store lighting, or tucked into a forgotten cabinet at an estate sale. And every time I bring one home, I think: someone made this. Someone used it. Someone loved it. Now it’s my turn.

This blog, The Story of Things, is where we share those stories.

Here, you’ll find reflections on art and design history, spotlights on materials and makers, styling ideas for bringing vintage pieces into your home, and the occasional deep dive into something weird and wonderful (like why so many Victorian ladies were obsessed with ferns, or how I accidentally started a rabbit collection without realizing it).

This is not just about things. It’s about why they matter. Why we’re drawn to them. Why we bring them home and make space for them in our lives.

Whether you’re a seasoned collector, a vintage dabbler, or just someone who loves a good story—you’re welcome here.

Come for the history. Stay for the hares. (Yes, I said hares. You’ll see.)
